What are cookies

Cookies are small text files that websites send to the User's device (computer, tablet, smartphone), where they are stored and then retransmitted to the same websites on subsequent visits. They are used for different purposes: some are strictly necessary for the website to function, others improve the browsing experience, others collect statistical information or display third-party content.

In addition to cookies, there are other tracking technologies (web beacons, pixel tags, local storage identifiers) that perform similar functions. In this Cookie Policy, the term "cookie" is used broadly to refer to all such technologies, including storage in the browser's localStorage.

Categories of cookies used

The Site uses two categories of cookies. For cookies other than technical ones, no tracking tool is activated before obtaining the User's explicit consent, in accordance with the privacy by default principle.

1. Technical cookies (necessary)

These are strictly necessary for the correct functioning of the Site. They do not require prior consent pursuant to Article 122 of Legislative Decree 196/2003 and the Guidelines of the Italian Data Protection Authority. They are always active and cannot be disabled via the banner.

This category includes:

  • Session cookies: necessary for navigation and correct page functionality.
  • Consent preferences: the value rsj-cookie-consent, stored in the browser's localStorage, records the choice expressed by the User via the consent banner. It is strictly necessary to ensure that preferences are respected on subsequent visits. It has no automatic expiry and can be deleted by clearing the site data in the browser.

2. Third-party cookies — Google Maps

The Site integrates an interactive map on the Contact page using Google Maps, provided by Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). The map is loaded exclusively upon the User's explicit consent. In the absence of consent, a placeholder is displayed instead of the map and no Google cookies are installed.

When the User consents to loading the map, Google may install the following cookies:

Cookie Purpose Duration Type
NID Stores user preferences for Google services (language, results, SafeSearch) 6 months Third party
__Secure-ENID Google account security and preferences 13 months Third party
CONSENT Records user consent to Google's policies 2 years Third party

Legal basis: User consent expressed via the cookie management banner (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

Place of processing: Ireland and potentially the United States. Data transfers to the United States are governed by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCC) approved by the European Commission.

For more information about Google's cookies and privacy practices, please consult Google's Privacy Policy.

How to manage your preferences

On first access to the Site, a banner is displayed allowing the User to:

  • Accept third-party cookies by clicking Accept;
  • Reject third-party cookies by clicking Deny.

The choice is stored in the browser's localStorage under the key rsj-cookie-consent and has no automatic expiry. The User can change or withdraw consent at any time by clicking the Manage cookies link in the footer of every page. Alternatively, by deleting the rsj-cookie-consent entry from the browser's localStorage: the banner will be shown again on the next visit.

Disabling cookies via the browser

Users can configure their browser to block or limit the use of cookies. Please note that disabling technical cookies may cause some features of the Site to malfunction. Instructions for the main browsers:
